Why does a clinical thermometer has a short range of temperature?

(1) A clinical thermometer has a very short range of temperature from 35°C to 42°C . The short range of a clinical thermometer is due to the fact that the temperature of human body normally does not go below 35°C or above 42°C. The kink prevents the mercury level in the thermometer tube from falling on its own.

How is a clinical thermometer different from other thermometers?

The clinical thermometer is used to measure the body’s temp. but an ordinary thermometer is used to measure any object’s temperature. The clinical thermometer range is from 35o to 42o Celsius whereas the ordinary laboratory thermometer range is from -10o to 110o Celsius.

What is the difference between clinical and digital thermometer?

The main difference between them is Clinical thermometer works with the help of mercury while Digital Thermometer works with cells. Clinical thermometer is more accurate than digital one when it’s cells are weak.

What is the difference between the clinical and laboratory thermometer?

Clinical thermometer is used to measure the human body temperature. A laboratory thermometer is not used for this purpose of measuring body temperature; it is generally used for the measurement of objects which generally have a temperature range outside that of a normal human body.

Which thermometer has higher range?

Answer: A passive IR thermometer.

Is clinical thermometer more sensitive than laboratory thermometer?

Summary of Laboratory and Clinical Thermometer Both laboratory and clinical thermometers gauge temperature at different scales. As compared to clinical thermometers, lab thermometers have wider temperature scales as they measure more diverse substances in gas and liquid forms.

Why is a clinical thermometer more sensitive than a laboratory thermometer?

It’s having a very sensitive bulb at the end. Clinical thermometers are having constriction at bulb which stops the mercury to come back on its own place Laboratory thermometer – It is used especially in chemical laboratories . It is used to measure hotness of chemicals .

What are the differences and similarities between clinical thermometer and laboratory thermometer?

A clinical thermometer reads temperature 35°C to 45°C while the range of laboratory thermometer is -10°C to 110°C. The clinical thermometer has a kink near the bulb while there is no kink in the laboratory thermometer.

Is clinical thermometer accurate?

All of the test instruments significantly underestimated higher temperatures and overestimated lower temperatures. This study indicated that the improvements in safety, speed, and ease of use of the newer clinical thermometers have been offset by a loss in accuracy and reliability.

What are the advantages of clinical thermometer?

The advantages of these types of thermometers is that they are cheap, easy to read, can be submerged in liquids, require very little maintenance and are reliable. The disadvantages are that they break easily and there is risk of mercury poisoning if the glass tube breaks.

What are the characteristics of clinical thermometers?

Sensitivity, Linearity, Responsiveness of clinical thermometers are the same as that of laboratory thermometers. Range: The scale ranges between 35°C to 42°C. This range is centered around the normal body temperature of 36.9°C. Short range enables the scale to be divided into smaller intervals for greater accuracy (0.1°C).

Why is a mercury thermometer smaller in size than a laboratory thermometer?

It is smaller in size than the laboratory thermometer. It has a constriction in the fine capillary tube. This constriction prevents the mercury from contracting and flowing back when it is removed from human body (temperature of surroundings being lower). This enables the recording of the maximum temperature of…

What is clidclinical thermometer?

Clinical thermometer is a slight modification of mercury thermometer. It is specially designed to measure the human body temperature.

What are the different types of thermometers?

The common types of clinical thermometers are digital, disposable, glass and mercury, electronic ear, and forehead devices. Clinical thermometers are generally for health-related concerns while laboratory thermometers are for research objectives.
