Why do plants need to disperse their seeds for Class 5?

Dispersal. Many plants scatter their seeds in order to ensure that they do not grow too close to one another. The process by which the seeds are scattered away from the mother plant is called dispersal.

What is the importance of dispersal of fruit?

In addition to protecting the embryo, the fruit plays an important role in seed dispersal. Seeds contained within fruits need to be dispersed far from the mother plant so that they may find favorable and less-competitive conditions in which to germinate and grow.

Why must seeds be dispersed away from the parent plant?

Seeds must be dispersed or spread away from each other and from the parent plant. This is to reduce competition between the parent plant and the new plants, and between the new plants.

What is the dispersal of fruit and seed?

Fruits and seeds dispersal is the process whereby fruits and seeds are scattered from their origin. The various ways by which fruit and seed are dispersed are known as agents of seed and fruit dispersal.

Why is dispersal of seeds necessary name the agents of dispersal Giving one example each of a seed that is dispersed by them?

Dispersal of seeds is necessary so that seeds of a plant get scattered over a large area. If all the seeds of a plant fall at one place, they will not have enough space, water, minerals and the sunlight. Following are the different agents of dispersal: Wind (e.g. cotton and maple seeds)

How do plants disperse seeds?

There are five main modes of seed dispersal: gravity, wind, ballistic, water, and by animals. Some plants are serotinous and only disperse their seeds in response to an environmental stimulus. Dispersal involves the letting go or detachment of a diaspore from the main parent plant.

What are three advantages of seed and fruit dispersal?

Abstract. Seed dispersal can be advantageous (1) in escape from density-or distance-dependent seed and seedling mortality, (2) by colonization of suitable sites unpredictable in space and time, and (3) by directed dispersal to particular sites with a relatively high probability of survival.

Why are seeds and fruits dispersed by water large and fibrous?

(2) Dispersal of Seeds and Fruits by Water The seeds and fruits which are dispersed by water develop floating ability in the form of spongy or fibrous outer coats. The seeds of water lily plant have a spongy outer coat which allows them to float in water and move to other places along with water currents.

Why is it important that the seeds germinate in a location away from their Sporophyte parent?

Flowering plants reproduce themselves by producing seeds. The seeds also provide the plants with a way to spread out and grow in new places, sometimes a long way from the parent. This is important because if the seeds are not dispersed, many germinating seedlings will grow very close to the parent plant.

Why is seed dispersal important in the life of plants What would be the consequences of having seeds that simply fell to the ground underneath the parent tree?

Plants make seeds that can grow into new plants, but if the seeds just fall to the ground under the parent plant, they might not get enough sun, water or nutrients from the soil.

How Can seeds be dispersed?

Because plants cannot walk around and take their seeds to other places, they have developed other methods to disperse (move) their seeds. The most common methods are wind, water, animals, explosion and fire. Dandelion seeds float away in the wind.

What are the benefits of seed dispersal and how the seeds are dispersed Class 7?

(i) Seed dispersal prevents the overcrowding of plants in an area. (ii) Seed dispersal prevents the competition for water, minerals and sunlight among the same kind of plants. (iii) Seed dispersal helps the plants to grow in new places (or new habitats) for wider distribution.
