Why are gas cylinders color coded?

The labels should be color coded to distinguish hazardous gases (such as flammable, toxic, or corrosive substances) (e.g., a yellow background and black letters).

How do you know what gas is in a cylinder?

The permanent stamp on the cylinder neck is the primary means of identifying the contents of a gas cylinder. The distinctive colour and a label on the cylinder neck also help to identify the cylinders.
