Where do you connect the phase wire on a switch?
The circuit arrangement is very simple to wire. The neutral and earth line from the DB is connected directly to the respective ‘N’ and ‘E’ poles of the socket. The phase line is connected to pole ‘P’ through an SPST switch….Power point wiring diagram.

What happens if we connect phase and neutral?
When you connect neutral and phase with a wire which has very low resistance,a large amount of current will flow in the circuit and it may damage other electrical equipment in the circuit,to prevent that from happening a protective device fuse is used.
Why switch should not be connected to neutral wire?
Even if the fuse blows off due to excessive current and the current in the circuit would no longer be conducted, the appliance will still remain connected to the live wire of a very high potential. That is why it is highly dangerous to connect the switch with the neutral wire.
Why should phase and neutral wire be put together in the circuit?
The connection between neutral and earth allows any phase-to-earth fault to develop enough current flow to “trip” the circuit overcurrent protection device.
Can you connect two switches in series?
You can daisy-chain network switches together. On most switches, it doesn’t matter which port you use to daisy chain to another switch. Just pick a port on both switches and use a patch cable to connect the switches to each other via these ports.
Are switches wired in series or parallel?
Most standard 120-volt household circuits in your home are (or should be) parallel circuits. Outlets, switches, and light fixtures are wired in such a way that the hot and neutral wires maintain a continuous circuit pathway independent from the individual devices that draw their power from the circuit.
What are phase wires?
Phase wire or hot wire is the wire that conducts electricity from the source (main supply or a battery) to any electrical appliance that is connceted to it (also called a load).
Why neutral is important?
Neutral wire carries the circuit back to the original power source. More specifically, neutral wire brings the circuit to a ground or busbar usually connected at the electrical panel. This gives currents circulation through your electrical system, which allows electricity to be fully utilized.
What happens if we connect the switch in series with phase?
Now, if we connect the switch in series with the phase line, If we accidentally touch the bare phase line wire, you will not get the electric shock. When you open the switch, the current is disrupted and cannot flow and therefore there is no current flow through the body.
What is the function of a switch?
Switch ,work as a manually controlled protective device .For interruption of flow of current so we used the electricity according to our needs. Switch is always connected in Phase.
What happens if a switch is open in a circuit?
Imagine a situation where due to some reason the insulation of the wires used in the circuit has been damaged and the conductor inside the wires are exposed. In case 1 if the switch is open, then the dangerous live voltage is isolated from the circuit ans the rest of the circuit is at the safe neutral voltage.
Why is it not wise to connect a switch in neutral?
Now, if we put the switch in series to the neutral, if sometime we accidentally touch the bare phase line wire, you will get the electric shock, Because of the current flowing through the phase line starts flowing this time through our body, Hence it is not wise to connect the switch in neutral for safety purpose.
