What type of material is ULTEM?
Ultem® (polyetherimide) is a semi-transparent high strength plastic material that can operate in high service temperature environments. Ultem® is resistant to hot water and steam and can withstand repeated cycles in a steam autoclave. FDA compliant grades of Ultem® are available.
What is the Tg of PEI?
The glass transition temperature of PEI is 217 °C (422°F). Its amorphous density at 25 °C is 1.27 g/cm3(. 046 lb/in³). It is prone to stress cracking in chlorinated solvents.
Where is ULTEM used?
Often used in the production of circuit boards, eyeglasses, food preparation and sterilization equipment, and, perhaps most notably, aircraft parts, ULTEM is known for its strength and durability.
What color is ULTEM?
light amber
The standard color of Ultem (unfilled) stock shapes is light amber. Glass filled grades appear tan or greenish in color.
What are ULTEM frames?
Ultem glasses are also called PVC glasses and PEI glasses. They belong to plastic frames, whose frames are made of amorphous PEI. This kind of material has perfect ductility and lightweight which is one third of traditional plastic and metal frames.
Can you autoclave ULTEM?
ULTEM™ 1010 resin is autoclave-capable, making it suitable for composite lay-up tooling.
Is Ultem toxic?
Oral Toxicity: Ultem resins have very low acute oral toxicity. Fume Inhalation: Processing fumes from typical Ultem resins are not considered toxic.
Is Ultem a polycarbonate?
SEMI-TRANSPARENT Ultem – Polysulfone – Polycarbonate The ULTEM family of amorphous thermoplastic polyetherimide (PEI) materials offer outstanding thermal resistance, high strength and stiffness. Ultem also has broad chemical and excellent steam resistance.
Is ULTEM an insulator?
Ultem has high heat resistance, UV and gamma radiation resistance and high strength and modulus as well as excellent electrical insulating properties.
How strong is ULTEM?
ULTEM’s tensile strength is 15,200 psi and it has a flexural modulus of 480,000 psi. It has very high heat resistance, maintaining most of its physical properties in temperatures as high as 170°C.
What is Ultem polymer?
Ultem® / PEI (polyetherimide) is a high-strength amorphous polymer with excellent heat and flame resistance (carrying a flammability rating of 94-V-0) with little smoke output. It performs continuously to 340° F, making it superior to commodity plastics such as Nylon and Delrin®.
