What should I expect from my first denture wearer?
When wearing dentures for the first time, the prosthesis would feel unnatural. But as the oral structures adjust to the appliance, normal sensations would return. Patients may also experience an increase in saliva production and irritation, but these are sure to return to normal over time.
How long does it take to get used to a partial?
While some patients feel adjusted after three days, others may not feel completely adjusted until weeks in. You’ll know you’ve learned how to survive with partial dentures when taking care of them has become so habitual that you don’t need to think as much about it anymore.
How do you eat with bottom dentures?
Eating Solid Foods
- Chew on both sides.
- Chew slowly and thoroughly before you swallow.
- Take smaller bites.
- Drink with your meals.
- Avoid hard-to-chew meats.
- Avoid sticky or gummy foods.
Which denture goes in first top or bottom?
When you feel the denture start to come away, gently pull up and out. Take out the top denture. Although the top denture may be a little trickier to remove, repeat the motions as with the bottom denture, and when you feel the denture release, push up and outwards, taking care not to hurt your gums.
How many teeth do you need for a partial?

Depending on where you need a partial denture, you may still have trouble eating particularly sticky, hard, or chewy foods. However, most of our patients have few problems with their partials during mealtime.

Try to chew slowly and from both sides of your mouth. Remove crunchy vegetables if present in the burger as it might damage the dentures. A soft and juicy piece of ham is ok to go along. Even lettuce is not easy to teat using dentures, especially if you are a new denture wearer.
What foods can you not eat with dentures?
Hard foods. Hard foods require your jaw and your dentures to apply uneven pressure. This can damage or dislodge dentures. Stay away from nuts, popcorn, apples, carrot sticks, and corn on the cob, except as an occasional treat.
