What is being done to save Black panthers?
Reduced speeding zones, construction of panther underpasses, public education, captive breeding programs and research are efforts being taken to save the Florida panther from extinction. The black panther is the common name for a black specimen (a genetic variant) of several species of cats.
What is the conservation status of the Florida panther?
The Florida panther’s current status is listed as endangered. Today there are only 120 to 130 Florida panthers left in the wild. They are found in southern Florida in swamplands such as Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve.
