What does WRX and STI stand for?

The WRX name stands for World Rally eXperimental and STI for Subaru Tecnica International. The WRX came to North America for the 2002 model year. The car was based on the Impreza platform but with more power and better handling. The more advanced STI version of the WRX followed in 2004.

What is the difference between a STI and a WRX?

Despite having the same 2.5L engine, the STI is capable of producing a lot more power than the WRX. The STI is able to produce 305 horsepower at 6000 rpm compared to the 265 of the WRX. The same is also true when it comes to torque, producing 290 lb-ft compared to the WRX’s 244 lb-ft.
