What does the MSD Blaster do?
The MSD Blaster 2 coil (MSD 8202) is engineered to significantly improve spark output over stock ignition coils, offering a maximum output of 45,000 volts. The coil, which pairs well with stock or MSD performance ignition systems, features special 100:1 windings for excellent voltage build-up.
Do you need a ballast resistor with MSD Blaster 2 coil?
This Blaster Coil is supplied with a ballast resistor. If your application uses a points distributor, the ballast must be used. Late-model electronic ignitions or an MSD Ignition do not require the ballast.
Are MSD Ignition coils good?
5.0 out of 5 stars Great coils. Put these MSD coils in solved those problems. I will say it brought the motor back to what it was new. There is a noticeable horsepower change, I would say 5-10hp.
Where do I mount my MSD Blaster coil?
It is recommended to mount the PN 8202 and 8223 coils in an upright position. The High Vibration Coil, PN 8222, can be mounted in any position due to its epoxy potting compound.

Does MSD coil increase horsepower?
Although you will come to some application, that the MSD unit will not increase performance, this is due to engine itself. The more modification done to the engine the more efficient the MSD unit will be. If the engine is stock, and is fuel efficient as is, you will not see much gain in a new engine or stock.
Do all ignition coils need a ballast resistor?
All cars produced with breaker-points type ignition generally had a resistor of some sort in their ignition system. And while ignition coil life may be compromised without a resistor, the additional secondary voltage (at the spark plug) is increased which generally improves power.
Who makes MSD Coilpacks?

When should ignition coils be changed?
The ignition coil on car is supposed to last around 100,000 miles or more. You will have reduced gas mileage when coil begins to go bad and becomes less able to transfer power. Your car requires more fuel to run, this means you will spend more money on gas than normal.
Can a MSD Blaster coil be mounted sideways?
Blaster 2 Coil Mounting?? Mounting any oil filled coil side ways is not recommended. MSD offers a small, Powerful Coil that can be mounted in any direction and is small for tight areas.
Can a Blaster coil be mounted sideways?
The coil needs to be vertical for the contents to be level. Sideways can lessen the life of the coil.
