What did Ponyboy struggle with?

Throughout the novel, Ponyboy struggles with class division, violence, innocence, and familial love. He matures over the course of the novel, eventually realizing the importance of strength in the face of class bias.

What problems did Johnny face in The Outsiders?

He had grown up in a violent, abusive home with parents that did not care about him. He also lives in a violent city where Socs and Greasers were in constant conflict. Johnny had been jumped and beaten so badly by a group of Socs that he has become jumpy and fearful.
