Is it normal for a 28 year old to get shingles?

Although it’s more common in older adults, young adults can also develop shingles. In fact, the incidence of shingles has been gradually increasing in adults of all ages over the past few decades. Why this is happening is currently unknown.

What are the odds of dying from shingles?

For people with a normal immune system, the chance of being hospitalized for shingles is around 1 in 12,000 people each year. For shingles patients, the chance of dying from shingles is 1 in 2500, with those 80 years and older at highest risk (1 in 400).
