Can I put toys in my fish tank?
Most rigid plastic toys, ornaments and figurines are safe for aquariums as long as they are not painted and do not have any sticker decals on them. Make sure the object is well-cleaned and any stickers or adhesives are completely removed.
Is it safe to put Legos in water?
No problem! Standard LEGO® bricks are not harmed by water. Some specially designed one-piece boat hulls will even float on the surface of water, although most LEGO® creations will not. Additionally, there are also a few types of LEGO® parts that should never be put into water.
What materials are safe for fish tanks?
Glass is durable and lasts hundreds of years underwater so it is usually suitable as an aquarium decoration.
- Dishware and Pottery (mugs, plates, bowls, etc) – These pieces are usually safe.
- Plastic and Rubber – In general, safe!! Plain colored plastics are inert and can make excellent decorations!
What plastics are safe for fish?
Polyethylene terephthalate, which is also known as PETE, is No. 1 and is commonly used in aquarium products. Additionally, categories 2-4, HDPE, PVC and LDPE respectively, have been deemed safe for aquarium use, given their resistance to corrosion.
Will fish play with toys?
As fish grow larger, make sure that they are not at risk of getting stuck in any of the toys, decorations or devices. However, like most creatures, fish need stimulation to be happy and healthy. Buy toys for aquarium fish to give your pets opportunities to exercise and play.
Do Legos float in water?
Lego bricks and Lego boats will often float, but not always. Legos are made of ABS plastic, which is slightly more dense than water and does not float by itself. However, some Lego bricks (and boats) are able to float when they have the right buoyancy, density, and surface tension.
Are LEGO motors waterproof?
The motors used for the project can be purchased from LEGO’s educational distributor, www.pitsco.com. The motors are waterproofed through a similar method as described in the book Build Your Own Underwater Robot, by Harry Bohm and Vickie Jensen. First, the motor is taken out of the LEGO casing.
Can I put ice cubes in fish tank?
Float a bag of ice or cold water in the fish tank to gently lower the water temperature. Avoid putting ice cubes directly into your aquarium unless you make them with reverse osmosis or dechlorinated water.
Can I put fish in a plastic storage box?
If the plastic used for your storage box is not strong enough, the risk of water leaking dramatically increases. Certain types of plastic are not suitable for aquarium use and can have a harmful effect on the fish in the aquarium.
Are plastic tanks bad for fish?
When plastics are left in water for long periods of time they can release potentially toxic chemicals into the water, so they should be avoided in fish tanks at all costs. Unsealed, painted plastic toys will release toxins into the water which could poison your fish.
Can you put Legos in a fish tank?

Are there fish in the Legoland theme parks?
In the same park, the Sealife attraction ‘Atlantis Submarine Voyage’ has 50 species of sharks, rays and tropical fish that happily coexist with the LEGO models. Keep in mind that LEGO is safe from children saliva, which I’m willing to bet is more aggressive than fishtank water.
Can you put old plastic toys in a fish tank?
Old plastic toys should not be placed inside the fish tank. They are toxic in nature and can harm the contents of the aquarium. Apart from all this, it is to be remembered that no matter how safe the plastic is, it is still non-biodegradable, meaning that it will not mix up with the soil of the tank.
