How long does it last? The symptoms usually last for about 1 week. Treatment for a Campylobacter infection may be available from your health care provider. However, most healthy people with mild symptoms will recover without treatment.

Campylobacteriosis is a bacterial intestinal infection caused by Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter upsaliensis. It is a major cause of human bacterial enteritis, although it is considered a normal bacterium in the intestinal tract of many animals and birds.
What are the first signs of Campylobacter?
People with Campylobacter infection usually have diarrhea (often bloody), fever, and stomach cramps. Nausea and vomiting may accompany the diarrhea. These symptoms usually start 2 to 5 days after the person ingests Campylobacter and last about one week.
Can Campylobacter keep coming back?
In some cases, symptoms may continue for more than 10 days. Occasionally symptoms can return after you have started to get better. Rarely, arthritis and Guillain-Barré Syndrome (a neurological condition) can occur after campylobacteriosis.
Can you get Campylobacter from dogs?
Dogs can carry Campylobacter germs that can make people sick, even if they look healthy and clean. Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water right after touching your dog, after handling their food, and after cleaning up after them. Adults should make sure young children are washing their hands properly.
What is the treatment for Campylobacter?
Azithromycin therapy would be a primary antibiotic choice for Campylobacter infections, when indicated (see Medical Care), with a typical regimen of 500 mg/d for 3 days. If the patient is bacteremic, treatment can be extended to two weeks. However, erythromycin is the classic antibiotic of choice.
Is Campylobacter fecal oral?
The transmission occurs via the fecal-oral route through ingestion of contaminated food and water. The disease varied from a watery diarrhea to a severe inflammatory diarrhea with abdominal pain and fever and can be burdened by some complications.
