The main object of the game is to use your stones to form territories by surrounding vacant areas of the board. It is also possible to capture your opponent’s stones by completely surrounding them. Players take turns, placing one of their stones on a vacant point at each turn, with Black playing first.
What are Chinese rules in go?
Under the traditional Chinese rules, a player’s score was the maximum number of stones he could in theory play on the board. Since every groups needs two liberties to live, this rule created a two-point group tax: the player with the more separate groups lost two points for evey excess group.
What are dead stones in Go?
Dead stones are stones which don’t have the slightest chance of escaping from enemy territory (sometimes, there’s an exception; see comments below). It is assumed by both players that any more moves involving the stones will be futile, and they are removed at the end of the game.

A standard set of Go stones has 181 black stones and 180 white. Black has an extra stone because it plays the first move. The total of 361 stones is enough to cover every intersection on the board.
Is Go more difficult than chess?
Go is simpler than Chess and yet more complex. Simpler because all pieces are the same, just black and white, and in Go the pieces do not move around the board. In general, to score the game, each player counts the number of unoccupied points surrounded by their stones and then subtracts the number of stones that were captured by the opponent. The player with the greater score (after adjusting for komi) wins the game.
