Does porphyria hurt?

The most common presenting symptom (90%) of an acute porphyria is abdominal pain. This is usually colicky in nature, located in the left lower abdomen, and lasts hours to days. The abdominal pain is rarely accompanied by fever, leukocytosis, or peritoneal signs. Accompanying nausea and vomiting appear common.

What does a porphyria attack feel like?

The most commonly reported symptoms associated with attacks include severe pain affecting the abdomen, back, or limbs; nausea and vomiting; high blood pressure; motor weakness; insomnia; or anxiety. Generally, porphyria attacks last five to seven days, although more severe ones can last longer.
