What plant looks like rhubarb but is not?

Common burdock (Arctium minus), also known as wild rhubarb, is easily mistaken for rhubarb. These biennial plants produce large, heart-shaped wavy leaves and tall reddish-colored stalks similar to rhubarb in USDA plant hardiness zones 2 through 10. However, common burdock is not edible.

CONTROL METHODS: Organic: Kill burdock by cutting the root below the soil surface and then pulling the plant out by hand, extracting a large portion of the tap root. For small plants a dandelion digging tool will be effective; other tools intended to remove garden and lawn weeds will also work on young burdocks.
