How is smoke density measured?
The Smoke Density Chamber is used to measure propensity of building materials to generate smoke when exposed to a heat source. The smoke propensity is quantified by measuring the obscuration of a light beam traveling through the smoke generated within the chamber.
How does density affect smoke?
The experimental result showed that bed density affects the the smoldering velocity, mass loss rate and smoke light transmisivity. At higher bed density smoldering velocity and mass loss rate increases, but the smoke took a longer period time to reach the bed surface.
