Why is an ecozone useful?
Ecozones are areas where plants, animals, people, soils, water and climate interact to form distinct ecological systems. Ecozones are a useful unit for assessing natural assets. They are also useful for monitoring the impact of both natural- and human-sourced stress on the environment.
In what ecozones would you expect to find most of Canada’s agricultural activities?
Canada has over 50.5 million hectares of dependable (Class 1 to 3) agricultural land (Table 2.3). Most of this dependable agricultural land is found in the Prairies (26.0 million hectares) and Boreal Plains (10.8 million hectares) ecozones.
What are Ontario’s ecozones?
Ecozones are the highest level of ecosystem classification in Ontario. Their boundaries are based on key abiotic processes functioning at global and continental scales within which human and ecosystem functions are defined and constrained.
How many ecozones fall within Ontario?
four ecozones
Based on ecology, climate and topography, Ontario can be divided into four ecozones, and each is shared with other provinces and/or American states. Ontario’s four ecozones are summarized here based on information contained in the State of Ontario’s Biodiversity 2010 report (OBC, 2010b).
What are ecozones and how do they work?
Ecozone Theory allows us to create a collection of information about the particular place and place it into a single “file folder” of data. Generally, Ecozones have two characteristics:

What happens when an ecosystem is not balanced?
The plants, animals, and microbes in healthy freshwater ecosystems are resilient and have adaptations that allow them to adjust appropriately until ideal conditions resume. However, if any element of the ecosystem varies too far outside of the norm, the balance of the whole system can start to fail.
What was our goal in studying the cycles of the ecosystem?
We also wanted to observe how the cycles effected each individual level of the ecosystem, the levels being: Aquatic, Terrestrial, Decomposition, and Predator/Prey. So, our goal was to maintain a working, or flowing, ecosystem.
