What does the CDI box control on a ATV?
Total, the CDI box controls the reverse limiter, the timing, the spark, the rev limiter, and all factory safety kill switches. Depending on the make and model of the ATV, the CDI box can also control a number of other things.
What does a CDI box do?
A CDI box works via the voltage from your motorcycle battery, and the electrical load discharges in one operation, starting the ignition and combustion processes. It takes a pulse of voltage passing through the CDI box to fire up the spark plug. These types of boxes have high spark voltage with short duration.
What is AC CDI?
The AC-CDI module obtains its electricity source solely from the alternating current produced by the alternator. The AC-CDI system is the most basic CDI system which is widely used in small engines. This DC current flowed through a wire to an ignition coil mounted outside of the engine.
What is the difference between AC and DC stator?
Direct vs. With an AC motor, energizing the stator coils through a direct connection to a polyphase AC power source is all that is needed to produce rotation of the rotor. With a DC motor, current needs to be supplied to both the stationary field coils (unless a permanent magnet is used) as well as to the armature.
What is ECU on motorcycle?
The engine control unit is the core component for the engine management systems for two-wheelers. Its software processes the system information and manages various functions such as fuel supply, air management, fuel injection, ignition and exhaust gas treatment.
What’s the difference between TCI and CDI?
CDI coils have low impedance and inductance (XL< 1 ohm) and can reach high RPM. This type of ignition makes high power and short sparks. TCI Ignition charges the coil with a current before the spark is done. TCI coils have high impedance (>1 ohm) and can reach lower RPM.
Which CDI do I have?
Your CDI has two plugs, a 4-pin and a 2-pin. The 4-pin side may have 3 or 4 wires connected to it (both AC and DC versions). If the 2-pin connector has only 1 wire going to it, it’s a DC CDI. If there are 2 wires attached to the 2-pin connector, then it’s an AC CDI.
